Rethinking Product Features
Over the past years, we learned some tough product lessons. We ran an internal study and discovered that 70% of features, specifically the ones that lacked “intelligence” were failures. They were merely replicating what already existed elsewhere, with a different button or a different name. There was no true transformation for our users. It wasn't enough.

In contrast, the features driven by our intelligent models received excellent reviews and created real value. It was a wake-up call: we needed to double down on intelligence and ensure it was transformational.

The Path to Tasq 5.0
Over the past two years, we put all our focus into building intelligence into every aspect of our product, utilizing AI to simplify life for users. But we faced some significant challenges: scaling adoption, quickly building and deploying models, and managing all aspects of the lifecycle—training, testing, production, monitoring, versioning—it was an enormous task. Still, we weren't willing to accept the status quo.

But we faced some significant challenges: scaling adoption, quickly building and deploying models, and managing all aspects of the lifecycle—training, testing, production, monitoring, versioning—it was an enormous task. Still, we weren't willing to accept the status quo.
Instead, we went back to the drawing board and started with first principles. We asked ourselves, how could we simplify this entire process and transform user workflows at their core? We realized that the key was to meet users where they already were—working with their data & graphs—and make it as easy as possible for them to achieve what they wanted.

Client Requests, First Principles, and Observations
We received countless client requests for "more models." But it wasn't just about more models—it was about what they were trying to achieve beneath the surface. By digging deep and doing many product interviews, we got to the first principles behind those requests: clients wanted systems that genuinely transformed the way they worked.

We started observing client behavior deeper and deeper. Of course, one of the main observations is that the majority of time, users are searching, observing data and looking at graphs—so why not meet them right there…right where they engage with their data the most?

Spotfire & BI took off as it gives the users full control to do their own analysis, but this comes with many problems, including data accessibility, lacking intelligence, and was never embedded into anyone's workflow. On the other side of the coin, traditional ways of creating models were just too error prone, and the standard sucked. Grabbing a hold of data sets, labeling, doing test train split, feature engineering, re-training, pushing to test, putting into a ML framework, monitoring the model, CICD….and more! This is just not good enough. And this is only done by 1 user, who bottlenecks the whole operation. It needs to be more intelligent, simpler, and given to everyone. The reality was, there is a massive problem in how teams work together to generate queries and models and push them to operations.

The secondary problem we wanted to solve was at the solution level. The utilization layer was disjointed still. The Data layer - BI layer - Model layer - Workflow layer are still too segmented, causing a lot of value slipping through the cracks daily.

These 4 problems, in different layers of the stack, and organization, seemed like a prime area to design around. 1. The software layer is not horizontally designed 2. Building a model & productionalizing was too painful 3. Scalable model structure 4. User behavior and usage patterns

Redefining the Software Landscape
We saw the limitations of the broader software landscape—everyone was focused on AI applied to chatbots and text, and not utilizing it in ways that could affect our core user experience. At the same time AI replicates the same challenges of ML…how do you deal with false positives? How is the feedback loop constructed? What data sources can be scaled to it? What is your training data? What problems are you solving for? How are you architecting around it? How are users using it? What value does it create for each user and for the company as a whole? How does it integrate into users' daily workflow? Inevitably all these aspects should diverge on each other with AI, more than the past with ML, however the problems still involve a similar pattern.

The existing solutions were siloed, fragmented, and lacking in transformative impact. Users ended up paying for multiple solutions instead of one that truly worked. With Tasq 5.0, we aimed to change that. We built a unified solution that could deliver what everyone really wants: instant value, a smarter system, and a genuinely transformative experience.

We immersed ourselves in research. We read academic papers, analyzed trends, dissected user behavior, and stripped down every challenge to its fundamental elements. We didn’t just ask what users were doing—we asked why. We examined every touchpoint, every friction point, and every missed opportunity. And it became clear: users needed more than features; they needed transformation.

“Build the vision now”—it wasn’t an easy or universally accepted decision. It required us to challenge norms, make bold bets, and stay uncomfortable. But it was the right move. We didn’t want to simply iterate our way forward; we wanted to leap ahead. We obsessed over the details, simplified where complexity stood in the way, and built something that we knew would stick because it was transformative from the outset.

Our vision was clear—if our product doesn't elicit a genuine "wow" from users, we're not doing enough. In a world where standing out matters, particularly in oil and gas operations, differentiation through innovation was key.

Building for Instant Impact
For Tasq 5.0, we prioritized what mattered most: immediacy and simplicity focused on any time series data feeds. We took that fundamental problem— latency—and applied first principles thinking to solve it for our users. What could be revolutionized if everything was instant? What could we simplify if we could reduce five user actions into one? What research papers were coming out and where was the market going? We wanted Tasq 5.0 to feel like a magic wand, designed to integrate seamlessly with not only the user's main focus, but also how their focus could be an “unlock” for other aspects of their workflow to really drive value.

Differentiating Through User-Centered AI
Traditional AI models are built by software engineers in software environments. But our end users are technical industry experts—not coders. We saw an opportunity to fundamentally reimagine model-building from the ground up. Tasq 5.0 empowers industry users to create, deploy, and refine models based on their deep domain knowledge, without needing to write code. The result? A product that doesn't just digitize workflows but transforms them. Instead of relying on human data entry, Tasq 5.0 intelligently captures data, automates workflows, and updates models to handle issues proactively—before they become problems.

Tasq 5.0 is built AI-first. Every feature, every workflow was reimagined from the perspective of maximizing impact with AI. We changed how we developed, how we marketed, and how we approached our entire ecosystem. We embraced the Y Combinator philosophy—build a product that “everyone wants.” And we took it one step further: build something that people don’t just want but something that fundamentally changes how they do their work.
